Dana Powell’s Landscapes of Power: Politics of Energy in the Navajo Nation explores the history of the Desert Rock Power Plant in New Mexico and the conflicts surrounding energy development on indigenous land. In the book’s introduction, Powell explains the larger history of how landscapes are places of power. Much energy extraction happens on stolen and unceded lands in the US, meaning that the legacies of colonialism impact human and nonhuman interaction, across time and space.
