Kate Worth, Karen Pinchin, and Lucie Sullivan, “‘Deflect, Delay, Defer’: Decade of Pacific Gas and Electric Wildfire Safety Pushback Preceded Disasters,” PBS, 18 August 2020, www.pbs.org/wgbh/frontline/article/pge-california-wildfire-safety-pushback/.

This PBS Frontline article helps to inform participants about the general attitudes held by California electric companies and their unwillingness to reform their practices and guidelines to improve safety and prevent wildfires. While not directly about the Thomas Fire, this investigative reporting about Pacific Gas & Electric negligence displays the ways that electrical equipment-sparked fires are not random, but the result of systemic abuse. It’s important to know that Southern California Edison, the company responsible for the Thomas Fire, has generally been aligned with the goals of other irresponsible actors like Pacific Gas & Electric.
